The New York Jets are off to a rocky start in the 2025 NFL season, dropping their first three games and leaving quarterback Tyrod Taylor and the coaching staff searching for answers.
Jets’ Narrow Losses Highlight Close Calls
Despite the losses, the Jets have shown flashes of promise. In Week 1, they scored 32 points but fell short by just two. On Sunday, a late field goal by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sealed a 29-27 defeat after the Jets staged a fourth-quarter comeback.
“It’s tough,” Taylor admitted to the media. “It’s frustrating. We put in the work every day to go out there and win. By no means are moral victories acceptable in our locker room, but this is a young team, and we’re improving. Even in a loss, there’s a lot to learn as we continue shaping this Jets team.”
Finding Positives Amid Struggles
Taylor, who relieved starter Justin Fields against Tampa Bay, completed 26 of 36 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Most of the production came in the second half, highlighting the Jets’ resilience despite trailing 23-6 entering the fourth quarter.
“0-3 doesn’t sit well, but there’s a lot of good we’ve done,” Taylor said. “We need to keep chipping away, believing in our DNA, showing up every week, and putting out our best product. Things will take care of themselves. I’m proud of the locker room for sticking together. No one’s confidence in one another has wavered. It’s going to change.”
Jets Face Multiple Areas for Improvement
Head coach Aaron Glenn and his staff face several challenges to reverse the early-season skid. The offensive line remains inconsistent, with tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou showing ups and downs, while the interior has performed relatively well despite losing guard Alijah Vera-Tucker for the season. Against Tampa Bay, Taylor faced pressure on 44% of his dropbacks, though a fast-paced second-half offense helped mitigate the impact.

The running game has also struggled. After rushing for 182 yards in Week 1, halfback Breece Hall has seen limited production in Weeks 2 and 3, with 29 and 21 yards on 10 and 9 carries, respectively. Entering Week 4, the Jets rank 22nd in rush EPA/play, showing that the ground game has yet to find consistency.
Defensively, Steve Wilks’ unit has been underwhelming. The Jets rank 29th in scoring defense, 22nd in total yardage allowed, and 28th in EPA/play. Missed tackles, penalties, and coverage lapses highlight the need for more discipline and consistency.
The Jets will look to snap their losing streak in Monday Night Football against the winless Miami Dolphins. Taylor remains optimistic that internal improvements and continued resilience will help the team turn the corner.
