For years, many iPhone users have been waiting for one specific feature to appear on the standard models: a ProMotion display. Introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro, this high-refresh rate screen delivers smoother visuals and better responsiveness. While ProMotion has been standard on all Pro models since then, regular iPhones have remained stuck at 60Hz, leaving fans of faster screens frustrated.
Some users, like those who upgraded from devices like the Pixel 3 to the iPhone 12, have held off on newer iPhones because the feature they wanted most never trickled down. Even the iPhone 15, which introduced the Dynamic Island to regular models, couldn’t sway them because it still lacked ProMotion. Meanwhile, Android manufacturers have been offering high-refresh rate displays even on their budget devices, making the iPhone’s limitation more noticeable.
The wait may finally be ending with the iPhone 17 lineup. Early rumors suggest all four 2025 models – the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 Air – could include 120Hz displays. If true, this would bring regular iPhones up to par with the Pro models and potentially shift Apple’s strategy, making the Pro versions less essential unless you want larger screens or telephoto cameras.
