Samsung is reportedly gearing up to introduce its next major leap in smartphone storage technology — UFS 5.0 — designed to deliver blazing-fast performance and improved energy efficiency for its future flagship devices.

The South Korean tech giant, long recognized as a leader in mobile innovation, is preparing to push smartphone storage speeds to new heights. Back in 2023, Samsung and several other smartphone makers upgraded their high-end models from UFS 3.1 to UFS 4.0 storage chips, offering faster data transfer rates and lower power consumption. Now, the company is planning another major advancement with the launch of UFS 5.0.

Up to 10.8GB/s Speeds and Smarter Performance

According to reports, the new UFS 5.0 chipset is nearly ready for mass production and could debut by 2027. The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, the organization responsible for mobile storage development standards, confirmed that UFS 5.0 is in its final stages of preparation.

The upcoming storage standard will reportedly achieve data read speeds of up to 10.8GB per second — nearly double the speed of UFS 4.0. Along with enhanced AI performance, the new technology introduces an advanced “Ink Equalization” feature, designed to improve signal stability and reliability during data transfers.

Improved Power Efficiency and Noise Isolation

UFS 5.0 will also feature new noise-cancellation mechanisms and a dedicated power supply rail, which enhances noise isolation between the physical (PHY) layer and the memory subsystem. In addition, Samsung is implementing inline hashing to provide stronger data protection and greater system security.

The new chip is expected to be significantly more power-efficient, enabling smartphones to boot faster, launch apps more quickly, and process camera data at higher speeds. This upgrade will result in smoother multitasking, faster response times, and an overall improved user experience.

Expected in Galaxy S and Z Series by 2027

Industry experts predict that Samsung’s UFS 5.0 storage will first appear in the company’s premium Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series smartphones. The rollout is anticipated to begin by late 2026 or early 2027, marking a major step forward in smartphone performance.

With these developments, Samsung aims to set a new benchmark in the mobile industry, giving users faster, smarter, and more energy-efficient devices than ever before.
