The Shelby legacy is set to continue. Netflix and the BBC have officially greenlit a two-season sequel to Peaky Blinders, with original creator Steven Knight returning to steer the next chapter of the iconic crime saga.

Set in 1953, nearly a decade after the end of World War II, the new series will follow a new generation of Shelbys against the backdrop of Birmingham’s massive postwar reconstruction. According to the official synopsis, the city’s rebirth from the devastation of the Blitz sparks a ruthless struggle for power, wealth, and influence — with the Shelby family once again at the heart of it all.

Each of the two new seasons will run for six hour-long episodes, continuing the tradition of gritty, tightly woven storytelling that has defined the franchise. While casting details remain under wraps, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, who led the original series as Tommy Shelby, is confirmed as an executive producer.

Production will take place at Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc. Studios, ensuring the story remains rooted in the city that made Peaky Blinders a global phenomenon. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham Blitz,” said Knight. “The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”

The sequel is produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness) and Garrison Drama, the company behind all six original seasons and the upcoming feature film. Executive producers include Knight and Murphy, alongside Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Danielle Scott Haughton, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley.

Fans won’t have long to wait for more Shelby family drama. In addition to the sequel series, a feature film titled The Immortal Man is slated for release in early 2026. Directed by Tom Harper, the film will see Murphy reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, joined by Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan.

Between the film and the new series order, the Peaky Blinders universe looks set for a major resurgence, promising fresh blood, familiar grit, and a continuation of one of Britain’s most successful TV exports.
