Los Angeles, USA – Sony has finally given fans a first look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive from Insomniac Games, during its State of Play September 2025 showcase. The highly anticipated title is set for release in fall 2026, offering a darker, bloodier take on the iconic X-Men hero.
First Gameplay Trailer Unleashed
The new trailer showcases Wolverine in brutal combat, complete with his trademark claws and gory finishers. Players caught glimpses of iconic Marvel villains including Omega Red and Mystique, alongside a towering Sentinel prototype.
The game’s settings span diverse global locations, from the snow-covered Canadian wilderness to the neon-lit streets of Tokyo and the shady island nation of Madripoor, promising a cinematic action experience across multiple environments.
Cast and Story Hints
Actor Liam McIntyre (best known as JD Fenix from Gears of War 4) voices Logan/Wolverine. Insomniac teased that Logan’s journey will see him cross paths with both allies and enemies, with factions like the Reavers bringing relentless threats.

“Independence is often the way of Wolverine,” Insomniac’s Aaron Jason Espinoza wrote on the PlayStation Blog, hinting at a mix of familiar faces and brutal foes throughout the story. The studio also revealed the game’s official cover art.
Long Road to the Reveal
Marvel’s Wolverine was first announced back in 2021, but little information followed. Development hit a leadership shift in October 2024, when creative director Brian Horton departed for Xbox to work on Perfect Dark before that project was eventually canceled.
Fans also remember that leaked footage and details from a 2023 Insomniac data breach gave early glimpses of Wolverine, though nothing official surfaced until now.
What’s Next for Wolverine
Insomniac confirmed it will share more details about the game in spring 2026, ahead of its official launch later that year. Given the studio’s track record with the Spider-Man series, expectations are high for Wolverine’s first solo outing on PlayStation 5.
