MediaTek Dimensity 9500 arrives as the chipmaker’s newest flagship mobile platform, promising major gains in on-device AI, gaming fidelity, and energy efficiency for next-generation 5G smartphones. Announced Sept. 22, 2025, the Dimensity 9500 combines a beefed-up CPU configuration, faster storage, and a beefy neural engine aimed at delivering smarter, longer-lasting devices without compromising performance.

In practical terms, the 9500 adopts MediaTek’s third-generation “All Big Core” CPU layout — a single 4.21GHz ultra core, three premium cores and four performance cores — paired with four-lane UFS 4.1 storage. MediaTek says this package yields up to 32% better single-core and 17% better multi-core performance over the prior generation, while the ultra core cuts peak power draw by as much as 55%. The company also highlights roughly 30% improved power efficiency during heavy multitasking scenarios such as gaming alongside social audio apps.

Performance and storage

Behind those headline CPU numbers is a redesigned cache and memory subsystem and the industry’s first support for four-channel UFS 4.1. According to MediaTek, the new memory architecture doubles read/write throughput and accelerates loading of large AI models by about 40%. A refreshed scheduling engine is also credited with translating raw silicon power into steadier responsiveness and sustained efficiency under prolonged load.

Graphics are handled by the Arm G1-Ultra GPU, which MediaTek claims delivers up to 33% higher peak performance and 42% better power efficiency versus previous silicon. The platform supports advanced frame-rate interpolation and ray-tracing-grade features up to 120 FPS, and it includes middleware and engine integrations (such as Unreal Engine support) targeted at enabling near-console visuals on mobile devices.

AI, imaging and creative tools

AI is central to the Dimensity 9500 story. The chipset integrates the ninth-generation NPU 990 with Generative AI Engine 2.0, which MediaTek says doubles NPU compute capacity and introduces BitNet 1.58-bit processing for large models while reducing NPU power draw by up to a third. The company touts the SoC’s ability to produce 3-billion-parameter LLM outputs up to twice as fast, handle 128K-token text contexts, and perform 4K-resolution image generation on-device — all with significant power savings at peak loads.

A new “Super Efficient NPU” using integrated compute-in-memory architecture is designed to run AI models continuously with much lower energy cost, enabling more proactive and personalized agent-style smartphone features.

Imaging upgrades arrive via MediaTek Imagiq 1190, which brings RAW-domain pre-processing, up to 200MP capture capability, 30 fps continuous focus tracking and a portrait engine that supports cinematic 4K@60fps portrait video. Display handling is improved as well: MiraVision Adaptive Display dynamically adjusts contrast and saturation based on ambient light, panel traits and content to preserve clarity outdoors and reduce eye strain in low light without causing excess heat.

Connectivity, power and availability

On the connectivity front, Dimensity 9500 adds enhancements for clearer Bluetooth calls, faster Wi-Fi transfers and multi-network intelligence that balances data and call routing. MediaTek reports AI-assisted comms features can save up to 10% power in 5G scenarios and up to 20% in Wi-Fi. Network features include 5-carrier aggregation (5CC) for roughly 15% more bandwidth and AI-based network selection and congestion prediction that improve positioning accuracy and slash latency.

MediaTek framed the 9500 as the culmination of years of R&D and ecosystem work with game studios, device makers and software partners. The company says flagship phones using the Dimensity 9500 are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Taken together, the Dimensity 9500 aims to push mobile devices toward more capable, power-aware AI experiences while narrowing the gap between mobile and console gaming fidelity. Independent third-party testing and device reviews will be the next step for consumers looking to validate MediaTek’s performance and battery claims in real-world use.
