Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have officially ended their engagement, bringing their five-year relationship to a close. The Olympic snowboarder, 39, proposed to The Vampire Diaries actress, 36, in October 2024 with a 5-carat diamond ring, but the couple has now decided to part ways.
A source close to the pair confirmed that the breakup was a mutual decision, adding that it was made “with love and deep respect for one another.”
Signs of the Split
White and Dobrev were last photographed together on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles. Just days later, fans noticed Dobrev walking the red carpet at the Eternity premiere during the Toronto International Film Festival without her engagement ring. She also quietly unpinned her engagement announcement from Instagram, further fueling speculation about their relationship status.
A Relationship That Spanned Five Years
The two first crossed paths briefly at an awards show in 2012 but didn’t truly connect until 2019, when both were invited to speak at an event hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins in Florida. Their friendship soon blossomed into romance, and by early 2020, they had moved in together during the COVID-19 pandemic.
White often praised Dobrev for her support, especially during his final Olympic run in Beijing in 2022. Their relationship was a staple on red carpets, vacations, and social media, where fans followed their journey closely.
